Chimney Work
Repointing, capping, lead flashing and stack repairs to keep chimneys sound and watertight, a common source of roof leaks.
Chimneys take the full force of the weather, and they are one of the most common places for a roof to let water in. Perished mortar joints, cracked flaunching and failed flashing let damp track down into the roof and the rooms below, often showing up some distance from the chimney itself.
We repoint and repair chimney stacks, renew the lead flashing where the stack meets the roof, cap off unused flues, recast the flaunching that holds the pots, and rebuild stacks that are past repair. Where a chimney is no longer used, we can take it down and make the roof good.
If a leak points to the chimney, we will show you what we have found and set out the work plainly, so you know exactly what is needed and why.

What's Included
Repointing
Perished joints raked out and repointed so the stack sheds water instead of soaking it up.
Lead flashing
New lead flashing and soakers where the stack meets the roof, a frequent cause of leaks.
Capping
Unused flues capped with a vented cap or cowl to keep rain out while letting the stack breathe.
Flaunching & pots
The flaunching recast and pots or cowls re-bedded so the top of the stack stays sound.
Rebuilds & removal
Stacks rebuilt where they are past repair, or taken down and the roof made good where unused.
